Day 16 - Sept 12, 2017: To Sicily

Day 16 - Sept 12, 2017:  To Sicily

Today was a day of travel. It is incredible how much of the terrain in Italy is mountainous! And high upon hilltops castles, fortresses, even towns are built!

It was remarkable just how close Sicily is to the mainland. We had an amazing view from San Giovanni in Reggio Calabria. The German and the Italian forces would have a good view of the Allies preparation for a mainland invasion.

On the ferry I noticed the waters were the most incredible blue you could ever imagine! It was even a deeper blue than what the photo displays.

Taormina, Sicily
Our B&B is a ten minute walk to the Teatro Antico di Taormina (Ancient Theatre of Taormina). Unfortunately we arrived at 18:38 and unbeknownst to us the theatre on this night closed at 18:30. It would have been great to see the amphitheatre built in the 3rd century by the Greeks,
